In August 2015, the company relocated its new headquarters to the Levis Commons in Tysons, Virginia. Golden Software is an affiliate of the Multi-Disciplinary Academic Research (MADRE) Group at Virginia Tech; it is also affiliated with Virginia Tech's Center for Advanced Analytics (CAA).

Golden Software developed Simgold to address a problem that it perceived within the training and education fields. The need for simulation software that could offer full fidelity simulations in real time was widespread among education organizations throughout the United States. Early in 2010, Simgold’s President and Founder, Dr. Michael Howe, announced the company had successfully raised $1.5 million to sell their early model of Simgold. In addition, they launched a program to seek additional financing through various business angels and angel groups. In February 2010, Simgold moved its headquarters from Huntsville, AL to Washington DC and announced that it had drastically reduced the price of the educational version of their simulation software: the licensing fee for the educational version was cut from $2,000 to $75/student/year compared to previous price of $1,000 per student/year.
